HOPE|Hands-on Opportunities in Practical Education

▌PROGRAM #1
HOPE: Hands-on Opportunities in Practical Education (Junior High School)

HOPE aims to help academically underperforming students regain confidence through hands-on learning of trade-specific skill sets. The program also aims to help financially disadvantaged students acquire skills that are useful to building a professional career in the future.

Goals:

    • Educational Equity:No child should be left behind.
    • Learning Interest:Participation in courses which are of interest to students but are not offered in public schools inspires an enduring predisposition to re-engage over time.
    • Nurturing Confidence:Build confidence through successful skill and ability discovery and development.
    • Well Rounded Attitude:Cultivate motivation to help each other and form a bedrock of a virtuous cycle.

Strategies:

    • Trade-Specific Courses:Taking into account the appropriate training for working in local industries, schools retain instructors to offer free weekend courses, allowing at-risk students to acquire helpful, career-oriented skills.
    • Academic Counseling:In addition to helping students acquire trade-specific skill sets, our programs also encourage students to develop interests in diverse learning. Together with public schooling, students are encouraged to explore their full potential.
    • Certification Counseling:Encourage and support students to take the national technician certification tests and recommend them to visit or intern with reputable companies.
    • Giving Back:Schools arrange for students to participate in community service programs so that they may apply what they′ve  learned to help social welfare organizations, promote accountability and be inspired to be good global citizens.

Progress:

    • Spread Love:The 2019 Baking and Pastry class delivered free bread to T.F.C.F. Family Helper Center, Huashan Social Welfare Foundation, and low-income families in Lugu. The Electric Machinery Service/Repair and Cosmetology classes provided services to senior residents at the Baoyou Elderly Care Center.
    • Positive Attitude:Students have become more eager to learn, more confident, more willing to help others and more optimistic.

Improved Relationships:Students′ increased positivity also improved their relationships with their teachers and parents.

Looking Forward:

In the future, we look forward to the day when students can learn knowledge in different fields and understand the hard work of different fields, and become people who can help others and contribute to society with their own strength, just like the purpose of this association.
